I was recently diagnosed with cataracts.  That’s right, cataracts on a 27 year old.  Tsk-tsk, as if I needed more things to feel old about.  Apparently, a simple surgery will take care of both the cataracts, as well as making possible for me to see clearly without glasses or contacts.  So…I suppose this is, in a fashion, good news.

I decided to celebrate my diagnosis with one of the most old-fashioned drinks there are: a rickey!

The Rickey is so old that Mr. Burns is frequently fond of them.  “How dare you interrupt my lime rickey! (sips),” he has been heard to say at times.

A rickey involves a fine booze mixed with lime and tonic.  My Apple Brandy Rickey was two ounces of Applejack brandy in a tall glass of ice, finish with tonic water and lime juice.  It’s fizzy and strong in all the good ways.  It was just the soothing I needed.  During this current heat spell, mop your brow with one of these, and I’ll see you all next time!  That is, of course, if the cataracts haven’t advanced that far.

Too many Rickeys.
